Week of July 26: Almighty God, may your Holy Spirit descend upon me on this day; and, fill me with the gifts and the spiritual guidance I will need to fulfill the deeds that will glorify you and point others to you. Should anything come my way that darkens my day and leaves me feeling helpless or lost, I will trust the Spirit to connect me to you from places within where no words can be found. I believe that nothing can separate me from you...not even when life is hard and leaves me with feelings of emptiness. I will cling to the knowledge of your promise of faithfulness to me rather than the negative feelings that may be strong in times of darkness. With this prayer, I am reminded of your faithfulness and I am ready to take-on this day with inner peace and joy...both the good and the not-so-good...praising you all the while. Amen.
Week of July 19: In the grand scheme of things, God, I wonder who I am that you pour out your blessings on me. I am imperfect and at times selfish to have things done my way. Yet with your grace and mercy you see past my imperfections and call me by name with your unconditional love. You even trust me with sharing your loving presence and your guiding Word with others. How can I not feel special as I am blessed with your attention? Thank you God, for meeting and accepting me each day, just as I am; and when needed, restoring me to your side. If inner voices tell me I am unworthy of your attention...help me to overcome them and hear your voice telling me that you love me. I treasure your presence and your love. I want to please you. I cling to you and you assure me that I am yours and you are mine. For this I am forever grateful. Amen.
Week of July 12: Wise Sower...Gracious Savior, your parable of the four soils challenges me to be fertile soil...ready to receive your Word, your guidance, and your call to my life. If I want to be fertile soil, I know I need to be ready to listen with my ears, my heart, my vision...all of my senses. In doing so I will be receptive to the seeds you sow and they will grow my faith and response to your will. Forgive me when other things win my attention...distracting me from listening for your teachings and direction. Draw me ever closer to you so I cannot ignore your voice. Equip me to help with the mission to sow your good seeds everywhere without worry about whether the seed will take root, just as you sow seeds. I want to sow good seeds everywhere for you today and everyday and help to build your kingdom. Amen.Take a Moment Prayer for the week of July 12 - Wise Sower...Gracious Savior, your parable of the four soils challenges me to be fertile soil...ready to receive your Word, your guidance, and your call to my life. Week of July 5: God, in this season of the celebration of our American Independence, I am cognizant that our nation's leaders need our prayers. You tell us that we should pray for all our leaders. And so I pray earnestly for all our leaders. I pray that they will seek you for wisdom and guidance in their decision making. I pray you will give them a heart that seeks to work together. Give them a spirit of willingness to put aside politics and defensiveness to provide what is best for all people. Lord, fill them with a heart like your heart...allowing love, compassion and peace to prevail in all their words and actions. Help me, God, remember that you come as my first priority...the official ruler of my soul. I have a responsibility to be obedient to you beyond all else...even my own personal preferences and desires. With your help, I will conquer that which challenges my faithfulness to you, and seek to help build your kingdom here on earth. Following your way of doing that will not always be the easy or popular way, but I'm willing to carry that burden because you are my God...and I love you. Amen.
Week of June 29: Today is a gift from you, O God. With it comes a huge welcome from you to enjoy it and to find you in it. Even though I know I will be bombarded by news and thoughts surrounding Covid-19, racial tensions and political hype, I will not let that bring me down. There's too much good you want to show me and I don't want to miss any of it. I also want to be on high alert to recognize when you need me to do something like: comfort the grieving, reaching out to the lonely, showing kindness to those I meet and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through word and actions every chance I get. So here I go, God. Lead the way. Amen.
Week of June 21: Great and Generous God, How rich are the blessings that you've given me. You provide for all my needs. You walk with me through the storms of my life. You point the way when I get lost. You build me up when those around me are unkind. When the dark side of society, both near and far, leads to feelings of despair and anxiety...your light shines through your Word and through glimpses of human kindness...and gives me hope for the future. So, I have many reasons to be thankful for all that you've done for me; and I have confidence that you will always be there for me. I wish everyone knew of your goodness and care. For that message to spread to those around me, I know I need to take some responsibility in sharing the Good News through my words, my attitude and my actions. Pour out your Spirit upon me to motivate me, to guide me and to fill me with wisdom so that I will be faithful to your call to love my neighbor and spread the Good News. It's in Jesus' name that I pray. Amen.
Week of June 14: Ever-Listening God, I know you are listening now as I pray...and you listen every time I pray, whether I am on my knees or when I am driving in my car and my heart cries out for someone in need...you are always listening. I know of no one else who listens as intently and lovingly to me as you do. Not only do you listen, but you always respond. I am grateful beyond words for this, and I will seek to live with thanksgiving in my heart...motivating me to live obedient to your will. For you are my God, and I love you. Amen.
Week of June 7: Holy God, when I slow myself down and stop to take a few moments to think about you…what you’ve done and who you are…I come to realize that your greatness is more than I can possibly comprehend. How do you do it? I mean, how did you create the universe; including the earth and all that inhabits it? How do you hear all of our prayers and how do you find the time to answer each one personally? How can you possibly know everything about me and everyone else? How do you keep track of your kingdom building plan, and the team you have working for you to bring it to fruition? And…whatever makes you think that I am qualified and gifted enough to be part of that team? Oh God…you are so amazing! In the end, my wondering graciously leads me to feel special because I know I am loved by You…Great Creator, Heavenly Parent, Miracle Worker…God. And, for you I live each day with a passion to please you. Amen.
