All of us can point to our mothers as the ones who have given us life. It is no wonder that many congregations speak of their mother church with similar fondness and respect. How has your congregation birthed new ministries or congregations? On a piece of paper list some three or four major events in your life, leaving several lines between each one. Take some time each day to think of the persons who were influential in those events. At the end of each day this week say a prayer of thanks for these sages and companions in the story of your life. Often we think of the Holy Spirit as something reserved for the extraordinary- tongues of fire, dancing, or miraculous translation of many languages. Yet, the Spirit is clearly also a source of comfort, a giver of wisdom and insight, and the empower source for the very existence of the Church. Take time this week to give thanks for the places the Holy Spirit moves in simple and life giving ways.
