MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren is to celebrate the love of Jesus Christ and glorify the
Lord by striving to live as Christ lived,  experiencing the power of God's healing in our lives.  We seek to nurture
our faith community through prayer, music  and the proclaimed Word, while enthusiastically reaching out to
others with compassion, respect and love for everyone so that we may grow in faith and commitment together.

VISION STATEMENT
Journeying with Christ - Serving Our Neighbors - Uniting at the Master’s Table
Service and Outreach Commission

This commission is charged with the congregation's ministry
outside the local church.

The commission has participated in the Field of Hope Growing
Project along with the Grossnickel, Welty, & Harmony Churches of
the Brethren. Recently the Christ Reformed UCC congregation in
Middletown joined the program. Interest is spreading.

he Commission continues its partnership with REACH to help the
homeless of our community by being a host for the Cold Weather
Shelter.

A team of 4 has been organized to travel to Chalmette, LA in
October 2008, to help repair homes destroyed by hurricane Katrina
in 2005. This service is sponsored by Brethren Emergency
Services, based in New Windsor, Md.

Habitat for Humanity asked the churches in Hagerstown to
sponsor the building of a The Faith House. A pledge of $3,000 was
made to help the project. The Vacation Bible School offerings went
for the Faith House project, and further money is coming from the
sale of collected aluminum cans. With our Leave Church Coin-less
jars for spare change, and continued gifts, we hope to fulfill our
pledge by  Thanksgiving 2008.

In addition to the above, the Service & Outreach Commission is
responsible for:

• Relationship of the congregation to the
Church of the Brethren  Denomination
• Relationship to the Mid-Atlantic District of which we
are one of sixty-four congregations
• Local ecumenical and civic affairs
• Good Samaritan Fund
• World Missions and Service
• Peace, temperance and race issues
• Brethren Volunteer Service

Looking forward, the commission continues to struggle with the
task of working in concert with the other commissions to develop
a balanced budget, while insuring that there are sufficient
resources to fund those activities that are essential to the future
growth of our congregation. We continue to support the
Hagerstown Church of the Brethren Discernment Plan and to work
to provide new opportunities for the members of our congregation
to realize their full potential as Christians. Our continued success
depends on financial support of our missions and active
participation in our service
In October of 2007, a Team of Eight
from the Hagerstown Church
of the Brethren traveled to
Chalmette, LA to help with the
continuing rebuilding following
Hurricane Katrina.
Here are some of the pictures from
their week.
